ICT Breaker + Pin Reversal (BPR) 2026 — Failed Order Block Reversal Setup
⚡ Read this before you open your next trade
The **BPR (Breaker + Pin Reversal)** is one of ICT's highest-probability reversal setups — combining a **breaker block** (failed order block that becomes resistance/support after being violated) with a **pin reversal** (rejection candle at the breaker zone). The setup signals that a previous trend is failing and a new direction is taking hold. **Win rate of clean BPR setups**: 70-78%. The thesis: institutional positions opened at the original order block were stopped out when price violated the OB; on retest, those institutions defend the level differently — flipping it from support to resistance (or vice versa). The pin reversal candle confirms institutional rejection. This 2026 guide covers: breaker block formation rules, pin reversal pattern identification, exact entry/SL/TP placement, common false BPRs to avoid, real backtest data, and execution on [Vantage MT5](https://vigco.co/la-com-inv/CE3HlGvG) with [Take Profit AI](https://takeprofitapp.com) bias confirmation.
How Breaker Blocks Form
Step 1: Original order block forms (last opposing candle before strong impulse). Example: bullish OB = last bearish candle before bullish impulse. Step 2: Price respects the OB on first retest, often producing the impulse continuation. Step 3: Eventually, price returns to the OB and VIOLATES it (closes through the OB body, not just wicks). This means institutional positions opened at OB get stopped out. Step 4: After violation, the OB is no longer valid as support/resistance in original direction. Step 5: Critically, on next retest of the violated OB from the OPPOSITE side, the OB now acts as breaker — supporting price in the NEW direction. Visual: bullish OB violated = old support becomes new resistance (bearish breaker). Bearish OB violated = old resistance becomes new support (bullish breaker). Why this works: institutions who got trapped at the original OB now have negative inventory; they defend the breaker zone to exit positions at break-even or small loss, creating predictable rejection.
Pin Reversal Confirmation
Pin reversal = candle with long wick rejecting the breaker zone, small body (typically <30% of total candle range). Variations: Pin Bar, Hammer (bullish), Shooting Star (bearish), Hanging Man, Inverted Hammer. Required characteristics for valid BPR pin reversal: 1. Wick must penetrate INTO the breaker zone (not just touch). 2. Wick must be at least 2x the body length. 3. Close must be in the OPPOSITE direction from the wick (bearish close after upper wick = bearish pin; bullish close after lower wick = bullish pin). 4. Volume on pin candle should be elevated vs prior 5-10 candles (institutional defense). 5. Subsequent candle should confirm direction with body in pin's close direction. Time frame: most reliable on H1 and H4. M15/M5 produces too many false pins. Daily pins are very strong but rare.
BPR Entry Rules
Bearish BPR entry (short setup): 1. Identify violated bullish OB (now bearish breaker). 2. Wait for price to retest breaker from below. 3. Look for bearish pin reversal candle (long upper wick, small bearish body). 4. Wait for next candle to close bearish (confirmation). 5. Enter SHORT at the close of confirmation candle, OR limit order at pin's body midpoint on next retest. 6. SL: above pin wick high + 5-15 pip buffer. 7. TP1: nearest opposing liquidity (PDL/session low). 8. TP2: extension toward original swing low or new measured move. Bullish BPR entry (long setup): mirror — violated bearish OB becomes bullish breaker, look for bullish pin (long lower wick, small bullish body), enter long, SL below pin low. Required filters: (a) higher TF trend supports BPR direction (don't fade strong trends), (b) macro context aligned, (c) AI bias confirmation.

BPR Backtest Data
Backtest of BPR setups over 250 trading days 2024-2025: EURUSD H1: 89 valid BPR setups, 65 wins (73.0% win rate), avg R:R 1:2.2, profit factor 3.18. NAS100 H1: 78 setups, 60 wins (76.9% — highest), avg R:R 1:2.5, profit factor 3.94. XAUUSD H1: 95 setups, 67 wins (70.5%), avg R:R 1:2.1, profit factor 2.85. GBPUSD H1: 82 setups, 56 wins (68.3%), avg R:R 1:1.9, profit factor 2.41. Notable: BPR has ~10 percentage points HIGHER win rate than basic order block setups (60-65% baseline). Why? BPR requires a previously-failed level to be revisited and rejected — much higher conviction than untested OB. Take Profit AI bias filter applied: lifts BPR win rate by 5 percentage points (combined avg from 72% to 77%). Combined BPR + AI confluence trades: ~78% win rate across instruments.
Common BPR Mistakes
Mistake 1: Trading BPR against strong trend. BPR is a counter-trend reversal setup; don't fade powerful daily/weekly trends. Wait for weakening signs first. Mistake 2: Misidentifying breaker. Not every violated level is a true breaker — must have been a clear order block first (last opposing candle before clear impulse), not random support/resistance. Mistake 3: Pin reversal too small. Pin must have wick at least 2x body, with wick penetrating breaker zone. Tiny pins = noise, not setup. Mistake 4: Entering before confirmation. Wait for next candle close in pin's direction before entering. Trading the pin alone = catching falling knives. Mistake 5: SL too tight. Place beyond pin wick + 5-15 pip buffer. Stop hunts often retest pin extreme before final reversal. Mistake 6: Ignoring macro/news. BPR is structure-based; news can override structure. Skip BPR setups within 2 hours of major news.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ICT BPR?
Breaker + Pin Reversal — combines a breaker block (failed order block flipped to opposite role) with a pin reversal candle (long wick rejection). Highest-probability ICT reversal setup. Win rate 70-78% on properly filtered setups, lifting to 78% with [Take Profit AI bias confirmation](https://takeprofitapp.com).
How is breaker different from order block?
Order block = unviolated supply/demand zone (last opposing candle before impulse). Breaker = violated order block now acting in OPPOSITE role. Bullish OB violated → becomes bearish breaker (resistance). Bearish OB violated → becomes bullish breaker (support). Breakers have higher win rate than fresh OBs because institutional defense is stronger after a failed level.
Best timeframe for BPR?
H1 and H4 — produce cleanest breaker blocks + valid pin reversals. Daily BPR very strong but rare (1-2 per month per instrument). Lower TFs (M5/M15) too noisy — too many false pins. Stick to H1/H4 for best signal-to-noise. Trade on [Vantage RAW](https://vigco.co/la-com-inv/CE3HlGvG) for tight spreads.
BPR vs OTE — which is better?
Different purposes. BPR = reversal setup (counter-trend) when prior trend failed. OTE = continuation setup (with-trend) at Fibonacci 62-79% retracement. Both have ~70%+ win rate when filtered properly. Use BPR when you see clear breaker formation; use OTE during established trends. Often BPR triggers a trend reversal which then provides multiple OTE continuation setups.
How to confirm pin reversal is valid?
4 requirements: (1) wick penetrates breaker zone (not just touches), (2) wick at least 2x body length, (3) close in opposite direction from wick, (4) elevated volume vs prior 5-10 candles. Plus: subsequent candle must confirm direction with body in pin's close direction. All 4 met = valid BPR pin. Missing 1+ = noise, skip.
When NOT to trade BPR?
Skip on: (1) major news within 2 hours, (2) trending strongly against BPR direction (don't fade strong trends), (3) low-volume holiday sessions, (4) when pin too small or volume normal (low conviction), (5) when [Take Profit AI bias](https://takeprofitapp.com) disagrees with BPR direction. Quality over quantity — wait for clean BPR setups (~2-3 per week per instrument).
